In my Organizational Behavior class at San Jose State University, I was challenged to change a behavior and set a goal for myself to acheive.
This assignment lead me in several different directions, and provided me with a long list of behaviors which I would like to change. For the sake of my sanity, I will only focus on one topic which I feel is of great importance- Health. Coming out of high school, I was a division 1 basketball athlete. I was in great shape and felt good about my health. Since I did not make move on to become a college athlete, I lost my desire to stay physically fit. Through this project, I hope to bring myself back to a good fitness level.
In my case, I feel that a tangible way to measure fitness is through weight. In high school I weighed about 170 lbs, and I am now about 190lbs. I would like to bring my weight level down to 180 lbs by the end of this project. Although this goal may seem difficult to reach in 4 weeks, I still feel that it is achievable.
In order to achieve this goal, I will follow a strict work out plan. I plan on exercising for at least an hour on Mondays through Fridays. I will use the weekends as a break in order to recover and get ready for the next week’s workout. I will focus mostly on cardiovascular exercise with some weight training in between. My teammates will hold me accountable to my goal, and I have found a work-out partner to motivate me.
In order to judge my progress, I will weigh in every Monday morning and post my honest weekly results on this blog. I am confident that if I stick to the routine I will be able to achieve my goal. Good luck to my self, and if I seem fatigue you all know why. Let the torture begin!

That torture will eventually have good results if you keep up, Mark! It's crazy how after high school, health has an effect with our bodies. I remember hearing the term, "Freshman 15", as 15 is the average weight that a college freshman would gain. I've gain weight myself after high school, but I was in denial at times. I'm sure working out for 5 days in 4 weeks, you will definitely lose 10 pounds - or more, if you keep up the hard work. I hope you won't be feeling sore as I did when I tried working out again. Don't give up! Think of all the positive results you can get and possibly have girls all over you by then. Our team will help you to make sure you're not over-doing your workout in case you might hurt yourself even more since it has been awhile that you worked out. Make sure to get plenty of rest and for you to recover. :)
ReplyDeleteMark, I know exactly what you are feeling. As I was telling Tina, I recently lost 8 pounds. I set a strict workout schedule as well as a healthy meal plan. You mentioned working out 5 days a week for an hour a day however you did not mention eating healthy. Since you have given yourself a 4 week goal to lose 10 pounds, eating healthy will help you lose that weight in a shorter period of time. This will not only reduce the time but is much better for your health in the long run! Good luck Mark! It'll pay off!
ReplyDeleteMark, wow division 1 basketball athlete is awesome! I hear conditioning in high school is very difficult. On top of exercising, eating well-balanced nutritious meals will also help you lose weight. Eating the right foods will give you the energy you need to burn through your workout regimen. I am glad to hear you found a workout partner because that will help motivate you to stay dedicated and disciplined. It’s good that you rest your body on the weekends since you do need to rest and recover. I am rooting for you and hope you achieve your goal!
